About Couture

It all began in May 2011...

Our founder + creative director, Todd Sawvelle, began Couture in May of 2011. Always with his eye on trends in fashion and home [after over 20 years experience from retail to wholesale] - Todd felt that there was a niche in the marketplace for well-crafted lamps at pricing that was in the middle of the spectrum from low-end to high-end. He created custom designs and took them to trusted resources to create lamps - exclusively for Couture.

Two years of steady growth led Todd to partner with Mastercraft International [a publicly traded HK-based company] and their Vice President of Product Development, Johnna Dobbs, to take this niche business with three employees - to a broader level of distribution and development. Using the resources of the combined companies, they have partnered to create a new Couture - not only with lamps, but a broad spectrum of home furnishings - from decorative accessories to small accent furniture.

Our Commitment to Giving Back

Couture believes that part of our success, is in our ability to make a positive impact on our community. You have to give back - in order to move forward. A few causes that we support:

Dwell With Dignity

Habitat for Humanity

We also believe that this sense of community has to be maintained by our partners in both Vietnam and India. To that end, we work to maintain relationships with resources that maintain both a pledge for a living wage, and to participate in programs to maintain skilled worker training.
What Makes us Different?

Couture specializes in mixing materials and textures to create interesting handcrafted lamps and home furnishings. We believe that this adds depth to our products - and ultimately brings added value in creating a more interesting interior design.

Our designs tend to be more architectural - inspired by our childhood love for tinkering with building blocks. Growing up in Florida - Todd tends to love both sophisticated coastal and mid-century modern looks - using these contrasting styles as a basis for development. And with that - using the best of our resources - to bring to life creations using materials that we just think are special, including:

woods [especially rubberwood + acacia wood from Vietnam]
mother of pearl [from oversized pieces - to hexagonal shaped MOP]
capiz shell
coconut shell
cracked eggshell
abalone shell
jute, rattan + seagrass
gold and silver leaf [hand-applied]
Combined with elements of crystal and acrylic, cast resin and metal.

Wherever possible, we use natural elements, which only add to the uniqueness of each piece.

All artisan-crafted...never mass produced.
